Alice in Wonderland has been around since 1865, when Charles Lutwidge Dodgson penned the novel under his pseudonym, Lewis Carroll. The classic story follows Alice on her journey down the rabbit hole and into a fantasy world full of anthropomorphic creatures, like the White Rabbit, Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat, Hatter, Duchess and Queen of Hearts.
Since Alice's emergence into popular culture, it has spawned a slew of television and film adaptations; First with the silent film from 1903 Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow, then moving on to the most famous adaption— Disney's version from 1951. The newest edition from Tim Burton (2010) is based on, but does not follow the original storyline of Alice in Wonderland. There's even a video game (set in an alternate universe) called American McGee's Alice (2000).
With over 40 cinematic adaptations inspired by the classic children's novel, it's no wonder why the characters from Alice in Wonderland make great Halloween costumes.
